Identify Yourself

Several weeks ago, our alarm was set and Kevin didn’t realize it when he went to go let the dog outside. Our system gives you a small, grace period but Kevin continued doing what he was doing outside and by the time he got to the alarm box, I could hear the alarm company saying, “CPI Security…identify yourself. He went through the special code word and told them who he was and the lady told him, “Thank you and have a great day.”

Now, as I was listening to all this from another room, the Holy Spirit spoke to my heart.

Can others identify you in Christ? Are you able to identify yourself through the blood?

Now, am I perfect? Absolutely not and never claimed to be. I yell at my kids when their bathroom looks worse than the 7-Eleven or when they want to talk at me like they’re grown. I snap at my husband when he aggravates me and doesn’t do stuff when I want him to (I am a little spoiled). Sometimes, I feel like I am pretty good at being holy everywhere else, but when I get home…the ‘hood comes out. My kids know I love Jesus, we pray and they know I am gonna always point them back to the Bible…but, they know mama can go from worshipping to whooping their tail in a matter of minutes. It’s something I’m working on, friends.

I’ve held onto that thought from the Lord for these last few weeks…just pondering what it really meant to me. I couldn’t help but think the timing is just perfect. It’s New Years Eve. I am going to spend the day working on my new planner and getting ready for a fresh start to 2022 (I even bought some cute stickers). Identity is so important. It’s how you are recognized and remembered. Just knowing the right words to say isn’t good enough. You must know Jesus…and He must know you.

I want others to identify with Jesus when they see me. Especially my family and friends.

I want them to see the power of a perfect sacrifice for sin.
I want them to see the love that is found at the foot of the cross.
I want them to see the joy that comes in a relationship with our Heavenly Father.
I want them to see that prayer opens doors and changes circumstances.
I want them to see that no matter what…God is always good.

Now more than ever, if you call yourself a Christian…identify yourself. You can’t just keep doing what you been doing.

Stand up.
Be bold.
Look different.

Someone is depending on you to show them Jesus…who never changes.

Help me Lord in this upcoming year to fine-tune my identify into one that is always going to point back to your Son. Sanctify me and remove anything that doesn’t identify with Christ, so that others can know you in a more real and personal way or experience your saving grace!
