Remember how the Tin Man in the Wizard of Oz desired a heart? He wanted nothing more than than to have a heart so “he could be tender, he could be gentle and awful sentimental”. If he got it, he said he would “stay young and chipper and lock it with a zipper…if he only had a heart”!
Every time I read Psalm 51:10, I can’t help but think about that Tin Man. It says:
“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit with me.”
This verse was mentioned in a Bible Study I am doing and a statement was made that it isn’t just cleaning up the heart we have, but God creating a new one…something out of nothing. It’s like we are hollow inside and without a hope. We are incapable of true love, devotion, gentleness and tenderness without it! A right spirit is renewed within us and we do feel young and chipper, don’t we? As a child of God, we have a life that is full…we aren’t an empty, rusty kettle anymore. We aren’t immobile or stiff from the world around us. We have been anointed with the oil of the Holy Spirit and we are empowered to go the distance and follow, follow, follow, follow…follow our Wonderful Lord! You sang that, didn’t you?
Remember…when you accept Jesus…when you accept forgiveness, you are given a new heart created by your Father in heaven for good works!
Now, that’s worth singing about!
