“For we did not follow cleverly contrived myths when we made known to you through power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ; instead, we were eyewitnesses of His majesty. For when He received honor and glory from the Father, a voice came to Him from the Majestic Glory: “This is My beloved Sin. I take delight in Him.” And we heard this voice when it came from heaven while we were with Him on the holy mountain. So we have the prophetic word strongly confirmed. You will do well to pay attention to it…” -2 Peter 1:16-20a
This world will try its very best to discredit God and discredit Jesus as the Savior of the world. I love these words from Peter. He was persuaded because He knew He wasn’t following myths. He heard the audible voice of God and He spent time with Jesus. Peter didn’t need convincing of the prophetic words of scripture…because he KNEW. He had confirmation in front of His very eyes.
I know that we don’t necessarily hear the audible voice of God, but I have no doubt that He has spoken to me through the Holy Spirit. I have heard Him speaks words into my heart and over my life. Scripture says that a sheep knows it’s master, so I know when God speaks into my heart and calls me to do something, say something or even the opposite…just be still. Now, sometimes I feel like I get a little too busy with life and end up hearing a lot of noise. When you got a lot of noise around you, it’s hard to hear the voice of the Father…mostly cause we aren’t paying attention. I believe He is always speaking into the heart of His children…we just drown Him out with the things of this world. Television, technology and our perfectly timed schedules have left very little room for God. Lord, help us to pay attention to You.
I have been an eyewitness to His majesty through miraculous things that have happened to me and around me that cannot be explained. Now, maybe I give God credit for things He didn’t do in my life, but I would much rather give Him honor for just being Who He is, than doubting that He is capable of doing great and mighty things! I have seen His handiwork in my life and can confirm that He is real. He isn’t a figment of my imagination from a book of stories found in a cave or made up by men. Everything that I read from Genesis to Revelation is God-inspired and God-breathed. The same things that I read about on the pages of my Bible are offered to me as a child of God and I have seen first-hand Him do things in my life and the lives of others just as God did for David and Moses. I have seen glimpses of His glory and felt His presence over me!
I have a friend on social media that has been in the Holy Land the last ten days and has been sharing her journey through pictures and writing. I have anxiously been awaiting each post and spent considerable time just scrolling through her pictures and taking in every detail of places where Jesus walked and Old Testament kings built palaces. As I sat and looked at her pictures, I was overwhelmed with emotion from pictures on my phone screen…I couldn’t imagine standing there! I would be a puddle that would drain into the Sea of Galilee! I know you are going to think I am silly, but I could feel Him as I stared intently at each picture. His presence was strong in my spirit as I seen a photograph of His birthplace and original streets that He walked upon and the distances that He traveled. I honestly don’t know how to explain it, so I just simply say, “That’s my God!”
It’s personal.
That birthplace was for me. He traveled all the way to the cross for me. He went the distance for me. He walked on that water for me…so as I sit here many years later, I am reminded that when I focus on Him and place my trust in Him, anything is possible. He calms the storms in my life and allows me to walk above this world.
I will keep my attention on Him.
