On Sunday afternoon I had to make a delivery to one of my friend’s homes. At the entrance of the neighborhood is this little guardhouse. Now, I’ve never came by and seen anyone in there in times past, but Kevin made a statement as we were leaving about it being empty. He said, “What good is a guard house if there isn’t a guard in it? Now what he said was correct, but at the time it was just conversation.
Fast forward to my Tuesday morning in my living room and I open up my Bible to read this…
“Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses every thought, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” -Philippians 4:6-7
Did you catch that last part? The peace of God, which goes beyond every thought we have, will guard our hearts and minds in Jesus! Now, it was no accident I read this scripture this morning…considering my anxious and worried heart these last few weeks. I mean, I know I am not supposed to worry, but this morning was a gentle reminder that as a child of God, I have a guard in the entrance of my heart that will STOP any thought in its tracks, if I will but pray to Him. If you aren’t praying and seeking a relationship with Him daily, it’s like you are allowing the security guard of your heart a day off and relying on an empty guardhouse of self to make it through each day.
Listen to me…our flesh is weak and when we rely on it, the enemy is able to walk through the gates of our minds. Don’t get me wrong, we make our own decisions and we choose, but it’s a whole lot more peaceful in the neighborhood of your soul, when you know there is a guard standing watch for you!
God has been guarding hearts since the Garden, so He isn’t going to stop now.
When you worry…Pray.
When you pray…peace comes.
When there is peace…there is security.
Where there is security, there is trust.
Where there is trust, there is a relationship.
Where there is a relationship, there is love.
Where there is love, there is peace.
