Stagger Not!

Remember when you put on your first pair of high heels? I don’t remember exactly, but I do remember a few times turning over my ankle or walking like a newborn baby giraffe when I first started wearing them. Why? Because we aren’t used to walking that way. It’s unfamiliar. Often times, unfamiliarity comes with discomfort. I used to wear high heels every single day when working in the corporate world and I got pretty good at navigating my day in four inch heels. My feet were accustomed to them and I didn’t have to worry about staggering, slipping up or hurting myself. These days, I wear only heels to church and I can’t get home quick to get them jokers off and back in the box in the closet. They are the first thing I lose on my way in the door!
Isn’t that like our faith sometimes?
We are unfamiliar in walking by faith, so we are constantly staggering…unsure of how to take the next step. We are constantly taking missteps, turning over our spiritual ankles because we can’t make sense of the promises that God has set before us. We don’t seek His guidance and direction in our lives, we merely navigate our spiritual walk like baby giraffes fumbling around trying to stand on our own. That’s not how faith works. In Romans, we see Paul talking about the faith of Abraham and he refused to waver when it came to God’s promise of a son and then when God said, “Sacrifice him.”, he clearly obliged because he trusted God completely. He didn’t stagger at the promise that if God gave him Isaac, there was purpose behind the sacrifice.
The more we walk in faith, the more comfortable our spiritual shoes will become. It’s easy to walk by faith on Sunday and Wednesday and wear those sassy, spiritual heels…but what about when Monday rolls around and you overslept, your bills are late, and your kids are out of control? Those spiritual shoes are easy to kick off when you hit the front door! Stagger not! Keep walking…knowing that the promises of God over your life outweigh any circumstance that the enemy wants to throw in your path to trip you up!
You got this! Walk boldly in faith. Become familiar with what trusting The Father with each step feels like…you will then be persuaded and be dancing in those spiritual heels at the promises of your Lord!

Romans 4:20-21
“He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.”
