I’ve done zero Christmas shopping.
I’m behind at work.
My Christmas cards have not been mailed.
I have a house half-decorated with icicle lights.
I’m exhausted.
Is anyone floating in that Christmas canoe with me this morning? I’ve caught myself saying numerous times, “Is it January yet?”
I had to stop this morning and adjust my focus.
It’s not about the gifts I have or haven’t bought.
If the work doesn’t get done, I guess I’ll have some upset people, but I usually come through in the clutch.
Lights on the house don’t mean anything if my focus isn’t on The Light of the World.
Yes, I’m tired. You probably are, too.
But, I decided to take a few minutes to put all that aside to remember why I am celebrating. That heavenly host was praising saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom He is pleased!”
Peace came on that night in the manger.
Not anxiety.
Not stress.
Not chaos.
Perfect peace. I’m clinging to that today, above all.
Maybe I will turn on that unfinished strand of icicle lights tonight and embrace the unfinished work in my own life and remember that babies need our undivided attention at times.
Let’s go back to Bethlehem in the upcoming days and place our attention on the Savior. There, we will find peace everlasting.
