I was reading back over Luke 8 this morning about the woman with issue of blood that just had to get to the hem of Jesus’ garment, because she knew she would be healed.
She had spent countless hours with doctors and countless dollars to still be left “unclean”. She was embarrassed and I can just imagine her as I was reading…sitting on the ground just waiting for Jesus to come by. If she could but just touch a small piece of Him, big things would transpire. She probably didn’t have the energy to even stand up at this point, but was determined amidst the crowd to reach out to Him. She wasn’t hoping for a casual encounter, but she outstretched her hand to Him with intention, determined and resolute faith! She knew in her spirit there was power within this man. He would change her.
He would heal her.
Maybe you are like this woman in your own life. Somewhat skeptical of what an encounter with Jesus can do…no worries, I have been there, too.
But, over the last several weeks I have seen the power of God displayed in my life in a way I have never seen. I kept it a secret from everyone…just me and God, because I didn’t want anyone else to get credit for the work that was going to happen. I wasn’t so much skeptical and I wasn’t testing God, but I wanted him to show Himself in a big way so that I can give Him the praise! My prayers were intentional and I was so determined, I took a prayer cloth and cut it in several pieces and placed it in strategic places and trusted God to do a mighty work! Guess what…He did! He is still working things out and I am excited to see His finished handiwork!
God doesn’t want you just brushing into Him when it’s convenient or casually popping into a pew on Sunday morning for a couple of hours. He wants you reaching to Him not when you have exhausted everything else, or as a last resort. Go to Him first. He wants you trusting Him enough to know He will heal your own “issues”…the big ones and the small ones.
There is power in Christ…even if the only thing you can grab onto today is the hem of His garment, it is enough.
