I remember as a kid going to the beach and seeing the banner planes advertising all the “cool” stuff and good food available to tourists. Even though I practically seen the same thing every few minutes, each time a plane would fly over, I would look up and read it. Even as an adult, I haven’t changed. I hear the plane coming as I am hunting shark teeth for my collection and I stop for a second, read the big red letters waving in the air and then return to my beach activities.
Think about that pilot for a minute. He doesn’t have a clue how many people are paying attention and even if anyone will take him up (ha…you catch that little pun?) on his promotion, but he has a job to do. Fly the plane with the banner. He’s just doing what he is told to do. He is there to promote something that someone believes in and wants you to see!
Tonight as I sit here thinking about who God is, the first name that came to my mind is Jehovah-Nissi, meaning “The Lord is our banner.” In Exodus, when the Israelites defeated the Amalekites, Moses built an altar and named it Jehovah-Nissi. You see, he held up his rod during this battle…knowing the reason the Israelites won the battle was because of God. God was the only one responsible for the victory. Read the whole story and see how when Moses got tired and dropped his rod, the Israelites started losing the battle…but anytime the rod was held high, they were winning. The battle was only won by the power of God…not by being a supreme army or having an amazing battle plan.
Now, what if we looked at our walk with Christ like that banner airplane pilot. Today…in these uncertain times, this world needs to see the people of God get in their planes and fly the banner of Christ…The banner of the Lord. It doesn’t matter if they aren’t paying attention or if they aren’t interested in your God….keep flying anyway. Keep promoting the Lord. He IS YOUR BANNER.
This world is counting on you and I to raise our rod and show that we will only be victorious over the evil of this world, pandemics included, when we choose to honor Him as our banner and promote Him in the good and the bad. When we are winning and losing. Someone is watching WHAT and WHO we promote in these uncertain times. Let’s fly the banner of our Lord…our Jehovah-Nissi.
Right now, the battle is with a virus…a global pandemic. Tomorrow it may be something else. Jehovah-Nissi will fight ALL those battles for you. Now, If you are ready, get in the cockpit and start flying. There are lost people that need to know who is fighting for YOU and that He wants to fight for them, too. PROMOTE WHAT YOU BELIEVE IN.
Just like that pilot, we just need to do our job (what He has called us to do) and let God use His power to change lives and fight battles for you and me. They are paying attention…they are reading the banner you are flying.
