Sunday morning in his message, my pastor spoke about the bride of Christ. Now, we know as Christians that the church is the body of Christ. As believers, we are to standout and look different to this world. He made the statement that we will not be a “trashy wedding party” at the marriage supper. I love that, y’all and my brain has been marinating on those words since Sunday morning. I wrote that down in my notes because immediately I had a picture of a “trashy bride”…the complete opposite of what you would see at any wedding. The bride always strives to look good. Her dress is white, pressed and clean. Her hair perfectly coiffed and her makeup is usually applied professionally to highlight her best features. She wants to step out in front of her groom and all those guests she is feeding after the wedding looking classy and beautiful…absolutely at her best.
She wants to look perfect.
What about when we stand before Jesus, y’all? How do we want to present ourselves? How do we present ourselves now to this world? Ephesians 5:27 says:
“…that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.”
Now don’t get me wrong, it’s not about what we look like on the outside and I know my drawing is quite ridiculous, but our outward appearance, what we say and how we act is a direct reflection of our heart. Christ’s desire for us is that when we stand before Him, we will be standing there without flaws or imperfections…spotless and looking our best.
How do we do that?
Through a relationship with Jesus Christ. We can’t do it by trying to “clean up our act”…it can only be done through blood of Jesus! We are clean through the shedding of His perfect blood. When we trust in Him with everything that we have and live a life devoted to serving Him, we are at our absolute best!
Everything we do and say is a reflection of Christ. Are we promoting being washed white as snow or just being plain white trash?
