“Ho! Everyone who thirsts,
Come to the waters; And you who have no money, Come, buy and eat. Yes, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. Why do you spend money for what is not bread, And your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, and let your soul delight itself in abundance. Incline your ear, and come to Me.
Hear, and your soul shall live; And I will make an everlasting covenant with you—The sure mercies of David. -Isaiah 55:1-3
We can spend a lot of time chasing thing in this world that we think will satisfy our physical, emotional and even spiritual needs. We can buy the “perfect” house, marry the “perfect” person and find the “perfect” church. None of those things will satisfy you completely and they WILL cost you. A 30-year mortgage or an expensive wedding that will mean nothing when you are in divorce court. Now, church is good…but that pew you have sat on for 20 years didn’t save you. None of those things will give you fullness and satisfy your thirst for the longing in your heart.
Jesus said in the New Testament to “come to Him” and when reading in Isaiah 55, we see that satisfaction and fulfillment comes from The Lord. You don’t even need money! It’s free…and Isaiah says that people in his day had spent all they had in vain. They were seeking deliverance and satisfaction apart from God. That decision left them in exile…yet God was calling them to come back to Him to be sustained with the finest of food and drink. It wasn’t to be taken as literal food and water, but the overwhelming abundance that comes when we realize that we have everything we will ever need when we trust in the Lord.
You want fulfillment? He says, “Come all…”
You want abundance? He says, “Come all…”
You want satisfaction? He says, “Come all…”
You know the best part? It’s everlasting. Everything else will fade away, but the Word of the Lord lasts forever. That’s something you can take to the bank!
