Mary Did Know!

If you’ve been in church at least once in your life at Christmas, you have heard the song, “Mary Did You Know? It’s a really pretty song, but as I was reading this morning in Luke 1 since it is the first of December I was drawn to Mary’s Song of Praise in verses 46-56.

“And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour. For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy is his name. And his mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation. He hath shewed strength with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. He hath put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree. He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away. He hath helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy; As he spake to our fathers, to Abraham, and to his seed for ever. And Mary abode with her about three months, and returned to her own house.” Luke 1:46-56 KJV

Y’all…she knew. She is quoting Old Testament scripture numerous times and was rejoicing in the Lord! Think about it…when the Holy Spirit moved upon your life, there was no doubt in His presence. So, how could she not have known what was taking place in her life with the very Savior of the Lord growing inside of her! What a magnificent picture of salvation, too! As the Holy Spirit is birthed within us, the more He is nurtured, our faith grows! Can you imagine the strength of her faith after this immaculate conception? So where is our faith? We may not have the physical manifestation of mercy, grace and love growing inside of us, but we have the Spirit of the Living God living and breathing within us and the Son making intercession for us to the Father in heaven!

Mary sings of the great things God has done for her…she praised His Holy name!
Mary DID know!
I know it isn’t correct grammar, but she knew that this little baby was going to be special. She knew she was going to be called blessed for generations to come. Yes, an angel came to her…but when God is inside of you…

…YOU KNOW!
