Micah 5 is talking about the coming of a future King that will protect His people, but it wasn’t maybe the kind of king they wanted or expected. The peace that would be coming from this future king was far beyond what they could comprehend or understand. The peace of God through Jesus and what He accomplished at Calvary is far greater than any peace that comes from a military battle. As I was reading the devotion from Ann Swindell today, she said it perfectly, so of course I just decided to share!
“How many of us today ignore the lordship of Christ in our lives when He doesn’t give us what we want? We might not reject Him as our Savior, but when God doesn’t answer our prayers according to our will, we may subtly ignore His lordship in our lives, choosing to try and make things work on our terms rather than waiting for Him to act.
We have the daily choice to trust that God’s ways are high above our own, and that His way of being king is the best possible thing for us (and for everyone in the world). He has graciously given us His Word so we might know and obey Him, but God does not ask us to understand all that He does. (Romans 11:33) What He does ask is for us to trust and obey Him even in the midst of our questions, and to rest in the truth that Jesus is Himself our peace. (Micah 5:5, Ephesians 2:14)
No circumstance or earthly safety can bring the lasting peace that Christ has won for us through His death and resurrection. His lordship is good, even if it doesn’t always look like what we expect it to.”
