I have spent the last few days in a funk.
Overwhelmed.
Exhausted.
Mad.
Frustrated.
Sad.
Not really sure why, honestly. I feel like I am pulled in a million directions and I want to be everything to everyone. That dang type-A personality gets me everytime. I want to be a good mother. A good girlfriend (and wife, eventually). A good daughter. A good friend. A good follower of a Christ. Most often I find myself (like most women and especially mamas) keeping those feelings inside, because we are tough…we are strong…we can handle it.
God knows I can’t handle it.
I always get a text message from Kevin in the mornings. I know when I wake up, I will have a little message from him that starts my day. A “praying for you”, “I love you” and “have a good day” for me and a message for the boys to have a good day at school just starts my day off with a smile. This morning was no different, except he has known I’ve been less than myself. Bless his heart, he is so patient amidst my chaos. If only I could blame my turbulent (at times) personality on Hurricane Florence.
So when I got his text, I texted him back and just asked him to keep praying for me. I know all these emotions I been feeling are just the devil trying to steal my joy and distract me from the blessings of God. Before I could lay the phone on the nightstand, my phone was ringing.
He was calling to pray with me.
As I cried and he lifted my name to Jesus, I felt such a peace come over me. A peace that doesn’t come from hearing the words “I’m praying for you.”, but from hearing my name called out audibly with love and concern to our Heavenly Father. I’m so glad he listened to God this morning and prayed with me and talked to me until he walked into work. He went above and beyond to make me feel so loved and appreciated…I felt Jesus through him this morning in a mighty way. His love was big, when I felt so small. He refused to settle on words in a text message when he knew I was hurting. He reminded me of who I am in Christ…not who I beat myself up for NOT being!
When God tugs at your heart to pray for someone, do it. Listen to God. Ask him to send someone your way that you can be a blessing to today. Love someone big. Allow someone to hear your prayers, not words that mean well. I know we all do it, me included. But, let’s make an effort to but our faith in action…it could be just what someone needs to have a good day. Even those that seem strong have weak days.
Also, to all the single ladies…wait on a man that prays for you AND will pray with you. One that allows you to feel Jesus through him. That loves you like Jesus. Refuse to settle. Find someone that will love you BIG and do the little things…like hold your hand riding down the road. You know if he’s right for you. If he ain’t, don’t put a ring on it, throw your hands up (sorry, I couldn’t help it) and walk away. You deserve it.
Why? Because…
You ARE a good mama.
You ARE a good wife.
You ARE a good daughter.
You ARE a good friend.
Sometimes, we all need that reminder from someone who loves us.
1 Chronicles 16:11. “Look to the LORD and His strength; seek his face always.”
