Usually when I am listening to a sermon or reading my Bible, a verse that most people just pass on will captivate my thoughts. Honestly, because I am thinking of how to draw a picture to help me visually as I understand God’s Word.
Sunday, the pastor read from Psalm 139:5 and it just resonated with me. So much that while in my personal time this morning, I couldn’t get it off my mind and left my devotion to go and read a little more and see different translations.
“You have encircled me…” HCSB
“You hem me in, behind and before…” ESV
I just love that. God isn’t just before me, behind me, or beside me…He is ALL AROUND me. He encircles me like a big fuzzy blanket. I am hemmed in tight and He is wrapped around me snuggly. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could just carry around a snuggly blanket all day, wear our comfy leggings, fuzzy socks and just embrace relaxation? Well, the good news is that when you allow the Holy Spirit to infiltrate your life, it’s just like that! You can be comfortable knowing God is all around you! His hand is upon you and you are blanketed in love. I don’t know about you, but that helps me rest easy.
It can be 100 degrees outside, but I sleep a lot better under the covers at night. It gives me security…warmth…peace, so that I can close my eyes and rest. That’s just like my Jesus, folks. He’s the Peace Speaker. Just relax and let Him encircle you today.
