“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?”
Matthew 6:25-26
Last night I prayed with a friend that is worried about some things going on in her life. She is so anxious and her heart is so troubled. I know exactly how she feels, so I just cried with her, loved on her the best I could and we took her cares to the Lord. His peace, His comfort and His loving arms are so much better at calming fears and breaking the chains of worry in our minds. As I was praying for her again this morning, my heart was drawn to this scripture. When I flipped to the scripture in my journaling Bible, there sat this guy his little limb. I never could seem to figure out what to add or how to finish the page, so I left it blank and vowed to come back to it at a later date. I now have the perfect words to place on this page!
I don’t know about you, but I like to watch birds. When I’m driving down the road or just sitting in the yard, I pay attention to them. I even watched one bird in a puddle beside my driveway splashing and taking a bath after a heavy rain. If you’ve ever noticed for yourself, they are quite carefree…so I see why God used a bird in the illustration in Matthew. They don’t worry or fret over anything. They sing and fly…always. They aren’t bothered by the rain or storms. They sing. They aren’t worried about tomorrow. They continue to fly.
What if we were like those beautiful, feathered creatures? No matter what comes in our life, we sing the praises of our Lord and trust Him to give us what we need to get through each day! We continue to fly in today and not worry about tomorrow. I know it’s hard to always offer a beautiful melody when our hearts are troubled, but God loves those spiritual squawks to Him, too! It’s easy to say, “Do not worry.” It’s easy to say, “Trust God.” But do not forget, God takes care of our feathered friends and He is definitely going to take care of you! When the limb of life gets shaky and your faith is tested, just keep singing. If you can’t sing audibly, remember God hears the melody of your heart. Don’t allow the devil to clip your wings…keep flying, my friend.
