I don’t always know my way. That’s why I rely on GPS, if I am going to a new place or traveling to a paint class in a different town. I trust that the sassy British chic in my car knows exactly which way I am going because she gives me a play-by-play from start to finish. I’m not gonna trust directions from someone else or even my memory…I’m going to trust the satellite that watches my every move.
This morning I was drawn to Psalm 139. I have done several drawings on this particular scripture, but my heart was so heavy to return to it this morning because there are always those people that think they know your ways…those people that assume they know it all. Aren’t they annoying? Heck, maybe it’s just me…prayers appreciated. I really decided to do a quick drawing and then I am going to sit in deep, reflective prayer. One, because I am annoyed…but two, because when God sent me to this scripture I felt like He was saying to me, “I know your ways”…”I know your path….”Let those around you assume what they know, their opinion of you does not matter.” He knows the words I am going to say before they even come out of my mouth. He encircles me, has searched me and knows me! No one knows me like Him…and I absolutely love that! He has positioned me exactly where I need to be and even when I am not acquainted in the way I should go, I trust Him to get me to my destination.
Me and you got to this particular day by different routes. How I got here is none of your business. Just like how you arrived here is none of mine. Why do we spend so much effort trying to be the back-seat driver of other people’s lives? We are so concerned with how everyone else is driving, we miss the turns we are supposed to make for the Lord to get us where we should be going. Doing life is so much more fun when you do it with others, but remember that it isn’t your job (or my job) to be the “travel agent” for those around you. Focus on your own trip and your own itinerary. God may have required others to take a few extra turns than you to get to the same destination…but if He abides in their heart, like you say He does in yours, then you will leave Him to be the driver and you will sit in the passenger seat, look out the window and just admire the view! He doesn’t need your help navigating the lives of those around you.
As I go to Him in prayer this morning, I am going to remember who knows me and cling to The One who has the knowledge too wonderful and too high for me to obtain. His positioning is perfect. He knows my ways. He is bringing me closer to my destination with each passing day. The back-seat drivers in my life (with much prayer) are going to be dropped off on the side of the road. My wanna-be travel agents are fired. With God, I hold the keys to where I want to go…and I say this with as much Christian love as I can, but I’ll wave at you in my rear-view mirror. I’ve come to far to turn back around. So thankful God’s Word gives us navigation form start to finish!
If you don’t remember anything you just read, remember this: Most people don’t care about you or your life. They just want a free ride to where you going, listen to your playlist on the radio and distract you from where you are headed!
Psalm 139:1-6
“O Lord, you have searched me and known me! You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar. You search out my path and my lying down and are acquainted with all my ways. Even before a word is on my tongue, hold, O Lord, you know it altogether. You hem me in, behind and before, and lay your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high; I cannot attain it.”
