In my younger days, I was pursued by guys that I wasn’t interested in dating. I’ve also been on the pursuing end…maybe chasing after someone that didn’t really care about me or want to date me. But…when both are in pursuit of one another, that’s when you have a relationship!
David was pursued for years by Saul. He spent a lot of time hiding and trying to get away from him for fear of being killed. So, when he penned the words in Psalm 23:6 that say, “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.”, he knew about pursuit. He knew God was following him in hot pursuit with goodness and mercy. With God’s faithful love we get His compassion, forgiveness and blessings just following us around! Just as with David, the Lord is in hot pursuit of you, too!
Sad thing is, most folks spend a lot of time running from God like David running from Saul . Hiding and trying to avoid Him at all costs. Avoiding what He called us to do…avoiding living the way we know we should be living…or running from Him because of past hurts or failures. Guess what?
You can’t outrun God’s goodness or grace.
What if today was the day you decided to walk out from the spiritual cave you have been hiding in and start running toward God? What if you chose to pursue Him like He pursues you? Scripture says that surely goodness and mercy follows us all of our days, so He hasn’t quit on you. He’s been running toward you and desires for you to run to Him! There’s is more that enough grace to cover anything that has kept you hiding and avoiding His faithful love.
Oh the sparks that fly when two people who pursue each other come together…but, even more is the flame that is ignited within the believer when she pursues God with all of her heart! Let’s have a burning desire to pursue the Lord Jesus, just as He pursues us! That’s the relationship He desires to share with you and me…we must run to Him!
