The Lord always shows up and gives my pastor a word or statement for me to live on for the week. I usually take that statement and put it in my calendar/planner at the beginning of the week, so that each time I flip through to look at my schedule I am drawn to The Word…no pun intended. 😉
Yesterday was no different. He said, “Whatever hole you are in, God is in there with you.” Now, it doesn’t seem very profound, but when you read through Psalm 139, you can’t helped but be moved. It makes tears fill my eyes as I read it over and over. Here’s verses 7-10, but I encourage you to get your Bible and read the whole chapter.
“Where can I go to escape Your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go go to heaven, You are there; if I make my bed in Sheol, You are there. If I live at the eastern horizon or settle at the western limits, even there Your hand will lead me.”
-Psalm 139:7-10
I think sometimes we forget that God is omnipotent (all-powerful), omniscient (all-knowing and omnipresent (present everywhere). God is not limited in any shape, fashion or form! As I read over verses 7-10 this morning I wanted to shout at my kitchen table knowing there is nowhere I can go that God isn’t with me! Now…you listen right here, ‘cause this is important:
It doesn’t matter if you dug your own hole and find yourself sitting at the bottom with your head in your hands ashamed, discouraged and wallowing in self pity. It doesn’t matter if someone else dug a hole for you, kicked you in and threw the shovel in behind you…
God is there.
I know what you’re gonna say next…
“I don’t feel him.”
“I can’t see him.”
Look up, child.
His presence is there. That hole you are in is shining bright with His glory, but you have to take your head out of hands, wipe away the tears and look toward the heavens! He is the Author and Finisher of your faith! He has started a good work in you and He will finish it! I know you feel like you can’t get out of where you are, but look toward the Lord to mount on wings like eagles and soar from the deepest pit to the highest mountain! I know you are tired of being where you are…let Him dig you out, you can’t do it on your own. There is nothing He can’t do, friend!
It’s encouraging to know that we have a friend in Jesus that even when we have dug ourselves in to a mess or allowed ourselves to fall into one, He is willing to encircle us right where we are! I have been in many holes in 39 years. Some dug with my own shovel and others were dug for me…but I am a living testimony that you don’t have to stay there! We are more than conquerors in Christ Jesus! Look up, child…there is nowhere you can go to escape His Spirit!
