I think so often we hold onto our flesh because we don’t have anything else to grab onto in life. We are comfortable just dangling, like my little monkey…we just hang out in what we are used to, because true faith in Jesus is frightening to our finite minds. We are saved, but we refuse to let go to our ideologies, theology and reach for the power that is harnessed within our swing from one vine of faith to the next. Trust me, I know it’s tough. I struggle within myself at times, because we don’t want to let go of what we think is okay or stop doing something that God called us to let go of a long time ago, because then it requires change within us. We don’t like change. We don’t like movement. It’s easy to just dangle on the monkey bars on the playground…but eventually you are going to get tired and your arms will fail. But, when you choose to let go of one hand to reach forward to the next bar, you are inspired to keep going! Same thing applies to when you reach for The Vine (Jesus), you are propelled forward in faith! Now, for Him to be in reach, you have to be close to Him. Closeness. A relationship. Yes, I know God is always close, but how do you know which vine is The Vine…the one that is strong, able to hold you up…and the one that as soon as you grab it, is going to send you falling to the jungle floor? That comes from knowing God. Not just knowing about Him. Jesus said in John 15 He is the vine…He has the ability to move you to amazing places when you choose to let go of your fleshly desires and focus solely on swinging with Him!
I am so thankful to be surrounded by a church family that pours truth into me and my family! My faith is strengthened and my heart is encouraged as I learn more about who God is and what He desires for my life! Sometimes we are our own worst enemy and the source of our weakness. I refuse to allow my self to get in the way of experiencing all God has for me. It’s not so much about sin, but letting go and giving God control. There is power behind each reach forward in faith!
What do you need to let go of today so that you can move forward in your faith in Christ?
