If you have kids, then they have probably played FORTNITE all summer long. I heard my preteen scream at the television more times than I would like to admit and talk about Dusty Divot and Tilted Towers like it’s Disney World. For parents that have no clue, it is a battle/shooting game where you are trying to be the last one standing and survive with tools/guns found in the area in which you drop into from a parachute. Before school started, I was ready to toss the Xbox into the garbage can and make them play Duck Hunt on an old Nintendo for a few hours for a reality check.
Well, as I was reading this morning in Psalms 18 and David is talking about the Lord being his rock, his fortress and his strength, I was immediately drawn to thinking about this game. Honestly, I feel that’s how we go through life most days. Just trying to survive with what we see around us. Be the last one standing in this battle of life. We build “forts” around ourselves…afraid to let God in our life and be our strength. We rely on our own skill and that usually leaves us losing at the end of the day. That makes me want to scream thinking about it!
When you put your faith in God, you rely on His strength…not your own. His weapons are more powerful than any rocket launcher you can find in your arsenal within the game of life. He doesn’t want you to just try and survive. He wants you to thrive…with a life fully devoted to trusting in His promises. Believe it or not, there is a battle going on that we cannot see….the weapons of this world do not work. Don’t try to fight alone. Let God be your rock and your defender. Let Him guide you through each day.
That’s a win, my friend. That’s how to survive.
“I love you, Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I called to the Lord, who is worthy of praise, and I have been saved from my enemies.” Psalm 18:3
