No Longer Slaves

When you accept Jesus as your Savior, you are no longer a slave to sin. I feel like sometimes we forget that we were in bondage before we chose a relationship with Him. I think it’s our pride, maybe…we don’t like saying that we are slaves to anything or anyone because it is word that is associated with oppression. It is cruel and unjust.

In terms of civil rights, it was most definitely cruel, unjust and no one should be subject to the control of someone else because of the color of their skin…but I’m not talking about slavery like that. I have in my mind the bondage that comes with being so wrapped up in sin that it controls every move you make and every word you speak. You are controlled by your own desires and oppressed by the enemy to the point that when you look in the mirror, you no longer recognize the person staring back at you. The lusts of this world can overtake us and it’s easy to get caught up…handcuffed…by everything around us and allow sin to reign within us.

But, there is hope and freedom found in being a slave to Christ. Now, that slavery is overflowing with an abundance of grace and mercy. When you are controlled by the Holy Spirit, the words that come from your mouth and the things you do are always pleasing to the Lord! You are no longer oppressed by the lusts of the world, but there is delight in serving the God of creation! He is your Master, but also your friend…the one that sticks closer than a brother! It’s easy to be a servant to those that are family, because we love them unconditionally.

Remember, you are not bound by your past sin. The chains have been broken and the lock has been opened. Jesus is the key to victory over sin. In Christ, there is freedom indeed!
