Peace is my Umpire

“And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.” Colossians 3:15

It’s always good to be reminded of the peace of the Lord! These days, the Holy Spirit brings it up in my spirit everyone I read. As I was going back over my notes from yesterday morning, Colossians 3:15 spoke to me. It says to let the peace of God rule in my heart. Rule? Really? Well, in the Greek that means to arbitrate or judge. Another synonym…referee or umpire. Now, I know about some umpires. My kid plays baseball and maybe it’s fresh in my mind because we sat on the couch last night watching the Mets/Yankees game eating pizza. I know those umpires are the final say…
They decide if the pitcher throws a strike or ball.
They call a runner safe or out at a base.
They are the officials or rulers on the field.

What if we let the peace of God decide for us in every situation? What if we decided to “strike out” anything that we know is not of the Lord and will cause hurt or harm to someone?

What if we always looked at love as a home run? When you choose love toward your neighbor, you will always score.

When we let the peace of God act as an umpire or judge in our heart, it rules every part of us. When it is making the calls and officiating, we can’t help but walk in the light of Jesus!

Funny thing is…umpires make bad calls sometimes. I guess it is according to which team you are pulling for and if the call comes against your team! But…Guess what? In the body of Christ, we are all one team and we have ONE coach. God doesn’t make bad calls! No use in challenging that, my friend!

Peace is never a bad call. As a believer, we should never challenge it. Literally right after Paul says to let the peace of God rule in your heart, he said, “be thankful.” This team we are on, “Team Jesus” is already a winner. I know some days it doesn’t feel like it, but we are in the ninth inning. Praise the Lord, it won’t be long and God is going to blow the trumpet and shout, “BALLGAME!”

That is for sure a cause to be thankful!
