My reading tonight put me in Psalm 16. I honestly couldn’t get past the first verse.
“Preserve me, O God: for in thee do I put my trust.”
“Preserve” just jumped out at me…so I went to the dictionary. I know what it means to preserve something, but i wanted to see what Webster said. Here’s what I found:
to keep safe from injury, harm, or destruction; protect
: to keep alive, intact, or free from decay
: to keep or save from decomposition
: prepare for future use
:to keep up and reserve for personal or special use
I don’t know about you, but as I read those words off my phone screen I couldn’t help but say, “That’s God!
Because of the empty tomb that we just celebrated a few days ago, I am safe from harm. I will be kept from decay. The best part…I am being prepared for future use! If you want to say I am “pickled” or “preserved” for the Lord’s special use…I would say that’s a good way to put it! As a child of God, you have a purpose and a plan…here and now AND into eternity!
When we trust the Lord and walk in faith, He is faithful to preserve us. We can be like David and sing that our refuge is in Him. When you have been sealed with the Holy Spirit, you are preserved, kept, saved and prepared for the Kingdom!
Rest on the pantry shelf that is the peace of God and know that you’re kept, my friend. You are safe when you have been preserved by the Master. Take hold of the truth of Psalm 16:1 tonight and rest easy.
