We will stare at a cracked screen on a phone and cut our fingers up on the broken glass.
How can we make it through the day without it, right? How many times have we gotten a new phone or had the screen replaced because it was broken? In my house, more times than I can count. But, in all reality our lives are so broken and cracked and we can’t even see it. We are too consumed with worthless things. We don’t even worry about those cracks.
We have the world in the palm of our hands with these things, huh? Maybe that’s why we are so attached to them? We have one hand on our Bible and on on our phone and that bloomin’ phone wins most of the time. Ouch…that hurts. We have become dependent on these devices that can cost over a thousand dollars in this world, but in all reality, they are worthless. Can they be used for good? Absolutely. But, overall, these pricey pieces of equipment are worthless in the eyes of the Father. How so?
-They consume our time with mindless scrolling.
-We watch videos until we fall asleep with it in our hand.
-We become consumed with sharing everything about ourselves.
-Our lives revolve around the next text message, Facebook like or Tik-Tok trend.
Lord, help us.
I’m not gonna give my opinions, but as I read Psalm 119:36-37 this morning, the words brought such conviction of my heart that I am just going to leave the scripture and that’s enough. I don’t need to elaborate. It’s clear and His word is powerful and doesn’t need me over-explaining or trying to guilt-trip someone into feeling bad about phone usage. It’s just got me taking inventory of my own self this morning and how easy it is to stare at a worthless phone screen (cracked or not), versus the the living Word of God.
Lord, help us. We have a cracked view on your desires for our lives.
“Turn my heart to your decrees and not to material gain. Turn my eyes from looking at what is worthless; give me life in Your ways.” Psalm 119:36-37
