Jeremiah is a hard read. Yeah, I know…I said when I started it I was excited because it contains one of my favorite scriptures, but all this judgement got me like. Why can’t these people act right? I guess the same reason I can’t act right sometimes.
BOOM!
Yep…thanks God for the scripture today that I needed to hear.
“Has this house, which is called by My name, become a den of robbers in your view? I too have seen it.” Jeremiah 7:11
Good grief. God just called them robbers! He ain’t playing no more. Isn’t that how we are though? We think that our wickedness during the week can be overcome with lip-service in occasional worship,
Hanging a few crosses on the wall at home, sitting a Bible on the coffee table or wearing a Christian t-shirt. God wants a heart that is transformed. When we enter God’s holy house and do just that, we are like robbers. The root word means to break down or destroy, not necessarily steal. Isn’t that what happens when we degrade God’s house with hypocrisy? It’s a metaphor, I know…but we go in and sit down and we are basically just hiding out until it’s time for us to leave and go out and commit another crime against the Lord. Not worship…just getting a check mark by our name.
Sheesh that’s tough.
I love when God gives you a spiritual “pat-down”. He has arrested us with his love, yet we continue to try and break free and do our own thing. Being a follower of a Christ isn’t like being a prisoner…it is the most liberating feeling you can ever possess. Take off the chains today, live in the freedom that comes with trusting God and walking daily with Him. Don’t look at God as your parole officer…checking in weekly. It’s a daily walk…and if I’m gonna be handcuffed…I want it to be to Jesus!
