“So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.” Romans 10:17
We can hold our hand to our chest and feel our heart beating. Sometimes, when I run (which is like NEVER), I can hear my heart beating inside my head. It may not be clear because of outside noise, but you can make out the thump…thump…thump. Usually though, we don’t hear our own heartbeat because our ears are tuned to so many other things around us.
But, have you ever put a stethoscope in your ears and then held it to your chest? All the outside noice was drowned out and that cold, metal disc amplified your heartbeat into clear, concise beats that sound like the rhythm on a drum. You can hear your heart doing it’s job beautifully.
In Romans 10, Paul says they faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of Christ. How do we hear the word of Christ? Glad you asked. 😉
That Bible that we carry in and out of church on Sunday, or that sits on a bookshelf all week…it’s out word of Christ. This world has a lot of chaos swirling in our ears and it is so easy to miss what God has for us in His Word, because we would much rather scroll Facebook, watch Netflix or read the latest self-help book. We need to pick up a spiritual stethoscope and plug it into the Bible and allow God to drown out everything else around us, so we can concentrate on His heart…amplifying His desires for our life. Where can I find a spiritual telescope? Glad you asked that, too! 😉
For me, my stethoscope is a desk in the corner of my living room. It’s where I bring my cup of coffee and a receiving heart each morning. After I take my kiddo to school and the house is quiet, I have my time to allow God to tune out the world for a while and allow His heart to speak to mine. I’m plugged into Him and focusing on the rhythm on the Holy Word on the pages of my Bible. Then, I can hear from Him. Maybe you don’t have time in the morning…maybe it’s the evening. Maybe you don’t have an hour…maybe it’s fifteen minutes. God will redeem any time spent with Him, so there’s no excuse. Don’t understand what you’re reading? Keep reading…you will. 😘
