God never convicts us through His Word if He doesn’t also fully intend to empower. So, when you receive His Word and heed to His conviction, you will watch your tastebuds change in surprising ways as you grow in Him every single day.
Lord knows I think about food a lot. It is my comfort. When I’m having a crazy day, food doesn’t judge me…except when I go to put on my pants and they don’t fit! But when it comes to our spiritual food, we NEED the Word of God.
Every.
Single.
Day.
Not just on Sunday morning, or occasionally throughout the week when we have time. I make a conscious effort to spend time with Jesus every morning and drink up every last drop of His goodness and grace to get me through the day. In doing so, I have seen things that I craved, I no longer have an appetite for. My tastebuds are changing. God sometimes needs to “chip” away (no pun intended…but aren’t chips so delicious?) through the Holy Spirit at the things that do not look like Jesus. We can’t discern what God would have us “dip into” or choose to push away from table, if we aren’t reading His Word and pursuing wholeheartedly to apply it to our lives! His Word is the recipe…but you must be willing to stand in the kitchen, prepare the meal and eat what is placed in front of you…whether you like it or not. God doesn’t say everything we read will taste good, but it will most definitely satisfy your soul and create a craving for more!
“Putting aside all filth I need and all that remains of wickedness, in humility receive the word implanted, which is able to save your souls. But prove yourselves doers is the word, and not merely hearers who deluded themselves.”
James 1:21-22
