“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.”
James 1:2-8
How stable is my faith? When I face trials and I pray in faith, do I KNOW without a shadow of doubt that God will answer my prayers? Do I KNOW that what I ask for, I will receive? When we pray to our Father and then turn around and doubt His ability to take care of our situation, the Bible says we are double-minded and unstable. It’s like stacking blocks quickly and not making sure that they are lined up correctly to allow for a strong tower. Then, when the table is shaken ever so slightly, the blocks fall apart. Now, think about that when it comes to our faith. We can’t quickly read a verse, say a short blessing over our food and expect our faith to increase. We must strive for wisdom through reading and meditating on The Word daily. Our prayers must be a conversation with our Father that allows for us not only talking, but listening…never ceasing. Our daily lives must be sacrificed to self and sanctified…honoring our Savior. When the blocks of that kind of faith are stacked, they are stable and not so easily shaken when the table of our lives is shaken. We are not so easily moved and will even count it as joy, because we can see our Father working in and through our lives.
I serve a mighty God. An able God.
He is our stability. He is what keeps us from falling apart when our faith is shaken. Ask God and KNOW you will receive. Our trials will produce perseverance and patience. This faith journey isn’t always easy, but we know our reward is great! It might be difficult on this side of eternity, but keep stacking those blocks of faith…there’s wisdom just around the corner (or the other side of the block) 😉
