Last night was a late night. Drove an hour to see my girl Lysa and not getting home until well after midnight. Needless to say, I am a zombie today and my brain is functioning at about 15%. I’m on my second cup of coffee and I’m pretty sure I only have mascara on one eye. But, it was worth it. My desire is to grow closer to the Lord with each passing day and I know that to do that, sometimes it requires being a little uncomfortable…sometimes in big ways and then others it’s in getting out of bed to boss the day when you have hit the snooze button a million times because someone will need you today in some capacity.
I got out my notes and read a couple of scriptures she asked us to write down, one of them being Hebrews 12:1-2.
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.”
Also, I wrote down the statement: “You steer where you stare.”
When I read both the scriptures and the statement, my heart overflowed because I can see so many times where I steered in the wrong direction, because my eyes were not fixed on my destination. What was my destination? Ultimately, an intimate relationship with my Creator. I wasn’t going to Hell, but my life was full of complacency and just on cruise control. I know you know what I’m talking about. You go to church, you read your Bible, you pray, you try not to do unholy things, say bad words and be a good person…yet you are merely only traveling the “Christian Highway” to get to Heaven. You don’t stop and get out and visit at all the amazing destinations that a relationship with God can bring you. You miss the amazing sights that come from following Jesus and His directions. He doesn’t just want us going through the motions. He wants us to live full speed for Him…He has so much to offer to a life that is surrendered to His will in faith and His navigation!
I have seen God perform miracles within my own life and bring me off of a dark road, when I chose to quit listening to the lies of the enemy as my backseat driver. Sometimes it is easy to tune out those lies, but then other times it requires you pulling off on the side of the road, turning around like we do as mamas when our kids are acting crazy and saying, “You need to hush so I can concentrate (in the name of Jesus)!” You can then turn to face the road, grip the steering wheel and know that as long as your eyes are looking to Jesus your faith will be perfected. Keep seeking Him, friend. If He says go, GO. If He says stop, STOP.
He’s not going to leave stranded. Just keep driving with the truth of His Word and His promises to never leave you or forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:6). There’s a miracle waiting for you just up the road. Put the pedal to the metal, sister! There are beautiful sights to behold.
