Stretch Yourself

Have you ever taken a tape measure as a kid (or maybe adult…no judgement) and stretched it all the way through the house to see how long it is and then clicked that button to watch it quickly roll back up in that orange box? What about finding a tape measure and saying to someone, “Let’s measure how tall we are!”, and then proceed to measure how big your foot is, how long your mom’s car is, the width of your bedroom door and…well you get the picture. As a kid, my brother and I loved measuring things and playing with the tape measure. Maybe it’s because we didn’t have YouTube and Facebook, but nevertheless, if my kids get one in their hands they can entertain themselves for while.

Well, the thing about that tape measure is that it only goes so far. It eventually stops and you can’t go any further, higher or wider.

There is an end to it.

I am so thankful that God’s love, ability and power NEVER runs out! Ephesians 4 says that the love of Christ goes past knowledge and that God is able to do far more abundantly than we could ever ask or think according to the power at work within us! You catch that last part?

Within us.

Don’t limit yourself to just want you think is on the tape measure of your life. Stretch your faith so that you can comprehend the breadth, depth, height and length of all Christ has stored up within you through the Holy Spirit! Now, don’t think it’s for you to sit back and say, “Look what I did!”. It’s not about us…it’s about giving glory to God always! He is able to do so much through you and I, if we will just plant ourselves in His Word and allow it to penetrate our hearts. The Bible says we will be filled with the fullness of God! The fullness of God never runs out. It’s a tape measure that keeps unwinding and stretching until forever and ever and throughout generations. It is within you. God isn’t going to pull it out of you, it’s up to you to allow Him to work in your life and pull you past what you think you are capable of doing. God does his best work when we get out of the way of ourselves.

Trust God to go above and beyond for you today. Read Ephesians 4:17-21 out loud and claim it for yourself. Know that God’s abilities never run out!

“…so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what I the breadth and length and height and depth and it know the love of Chris they surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now Him who is able to to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever Amen.”
