How often do we try to carry our burdens around with us without asking the Lord to help us? The devil is good at using our feelings/burdens to steal our joy and have us walking hunched over by the weight. Take your backpack of burdens and give it to Jesus. Don’t try to get through the hard times alone. Allow Him to carry them for you. Trust Him to lighten the load of your heart and give you peace as you hike through life. Trust me, I know it is NOT easy. I have carried many burdens in my own backpack…but I know the only way I made it up the hill and to the other side was by allowing Jesus to lighten the load. Those burdens sometimes never go away completely, but with Jesus they are a whole lot easier to carry.
“Cast your burden on the Lord, and He will sustain you…” Psalm 55:22
On Sunday night, I went to see Chonda Pierce in concert. I’ve heard her CD and seen her at a women’s conference, but never actually heard her full testimony.
As she told her story, she put on a backpack that she loaded down with blocks that had words written in red across them. Those words were feelings/burdens that she carries around with her because of life choices that she made or because ofthings that have happened to her over the course of her life. I could relate to many of those blocks that she placed within her backpack and cried along with her as she opened up her heart to the audience about her trials, struggles and disappointments. Of all the tragic things she has experienced, she finds joy in the Lord through laughter and finding the humor in everyday life. She has trusted the Lord to carry her backpack of burdens for her…that’s how she is able to laugh through such pain.
