Perspective

When God’s plans are the same as our expected plans we are on a spiritual high…but when God’s plans aren’t what we expected, why do we find ourselves in despair? Isn’t God still the same God?
Absolutely.
Reading today in 1 Kings 19 about Elijah. He had just seen God show all His magnificent glory by igniting a soaking wet altar. He was on a spiritual high because he had won the show down with the prophets of Baal. Now, here we sit with Elijah being threatened by Jezebel…I guess you could say he felt like God wasn’t doing what Elijah expected cause he “tucked his tail and ran” (that’s my little girl from Mayo talk for y’all). He expected Jezebel and Ahab to be overthrown, but they are still in power and now he fears for his life. Oh, how the tables have turned in Elijah’s mind.

To make a long story short, God does meet with Elijah, tenderly supplies bread and water and actually takes him back through the wilderness (where he had came from). Elijah was ready to give up in defeat, but God gave him a new perspective. Elijah felt alone, but soon realized God was there with him. He didn’t respond to his complaint, but the instructions God gave him showed just how sovereign God is over the affairs of His people.

Lord knows I am a product of things not going the way that I expected them to go…we all are. However, I know this:

God is still good.
God is good to me.
I need to let God be God.

He knows better than our expectations. He has to flip us upside down sometimes to change our perspective on things in our lives. He knows how shaky and weak our flesh can be (like Elijah wanting to run and hide), but through His Word the truth is solid and firm.

I will trust God’s plans a whole lot more than my expectations.
