“I will lift my voice
To worship You, my King
I will find my strength
In the shadow on Your wings”
-Third Day
Have you ever noticed how a mama bird just takes her babies under wings and just covers them? The mama’s massive wings are like a canopy and her babies can sit warm, cozy and completed protected from the elements of the world around them. That’s how I picture God this morning.
David wrote Psalm 57 when he was in a cave full of despair, yet he managed to cry out to God in praise. He says, “I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings.” Even though his circumstances didn’t quite match what He knew of God’s character, He trusted and kept the faith that God was going to deliver him from His enemies. He had seen the mercy of the Lord and His faith was made stronger. He was trusting God to keep him protected. His refuge was the massive wings of an Almighty God.
Who do we take refuge in when life has us in the pits…in a spiritual cave? Do we rely on a Facebook poll, a self help book, or advice from a friend that can’t even get their own life together? Or…do we climb under the shadow of God’s wings and allow Him to take care of us until the storms of destruction pass by? Have you ever gotten a little too close to a mother goose that is protecting her babies? She will remind you very quickly that you need to back up! That’s like God…If you are His child and under His wings, the devil and this world can’t destroy you. You are protected. Remind yourself of that today.
If you are struggling with letting God handle a situation in your life, just get close to Jesus and get cozy under His wings. He sends out His steadfast love and faithfulness! (Psalm 57:3). Your job is only to trust the protection of His wings. It’s so warm and cozy there, my friend. Come on in, there’s room for all His children.
