Withering

Evil is running rampant in our world. Sometimes I feel like I am standing outside looking at a garden that is flourishing with evil. New “crops” of awful things sprout up each day right before my eyes and I hear of a bountiful harvest of hurt, despair and uncertainty with each planted row. It seems like good just isn’t growing anywhere at times.

Well, let me give you some encouragement. One of the verses from our sermon yesterday was Psalm 37:5. I usually go and read a few verses before and decided I would start with the beginning of the chapter since I was only 5 verses in. Read this out loud to yourself wherever you are:

“Do not fret because of evildoers,

Nor be envious of the workers of iniquity.

For they shall soon be cut down like the grass,

And wither as the green herb. Trust in the Lord, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass. He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light,

And your justice as the noonday.”

-Psalm 37:1-6 NKJV

Did you see that? Workers of evil will be mowed down like grass and wither as a green herb. You just trust in the Lord and commit yourself to Him! That is encouragement to me, friend. Evil will wither quickly. Make no mistake, it may feel like the pasture is green and lush for those that say and do evil in this world, but it is short-lived. Just hold onto Jesus and water your spirit with His Word! Meditate daily on Him in prayer and worship. Don’t get caught up on what is going on in someone else’s garden…keep your eyes fixed on the fruit that you are bearing and tend to the soil of your own garden. Be centered in your own faith and trust that God is in control.

When evil rises up against you and tries to infest your spirit, remind the enemy of His future with some Psalm 37 pesticide! God has planted you where you are for a purpose! Keep your eyes on Him and watch your faith grow!
